Spadeadam Motor Club members compete within a variety of different Motor Sport disciplines. Its principle sport is Rallying, whilst other compete in Road Rallying (Navigation events including 12 car rallies), Members also compete on Hillclimbs and sprints. Current rally members include several top running crews on the Tyrespot North of England tarmacadam Championship, including 2003, 2004 & 2005 champions Barry & Michael Lindsay in their Peugeot 106 Gti and just missing out on the 2006 championship when the gearbox broke on the last rally. Tim Finch is a strong contender also missing out on 2006 Championship due to technical problems over the final rounds. Keith Taylor / Steve Rogers also contest in the Subaru Impreza as well as other events. Geoffrey & Nigel Harkness use a Vauxhall Corsa on selected events whilst also fitting in a selection of Sprints & Hillclimbs. Nigel Hepburn and Richard Hortin have a Ford Puma 1400 contesting selected events. The club also has a selection of rally co-drivers who vary their loyalties to various drivers! Jemma Bellingham is currently with David Meredith and is contesting the British Rally Championship in only her second year in the sport. Allan Cathers is a currently teamed up with Rory Young also in a Mitsubishi Evo and contesting the Scottish Rally Championship. Fiona Gourlay is contesting the Scottish Tarmac Championship, while Richard Clark contests selected events as either a driver or a navigator. His son Simon is concentrating on his business of selling Matador tyres, also selling tyres is Pirelli’s Dick Cormack. Road event members include 2006 SD34 champion navigator Jerry Hettrick who is also the Clerk of Course for the Spadeadam Motor Club Countdown Navigation Rally. Paul Schatz and Richard Todd contest ANCC events in a Peugeot 205. Tom Wilcox also competes and organises being the C of C for the Westmorland Rally. Not all members compete, other members are part of running motor sport events, Richard Thomson for example marshals on rallies and also a track marshal at race meetings all over Great Britain and also sometimes USA. Tony Brunskill runs a motorsport PR business writing columns for local press. |
